Self propelled baler

Interesting... I?ve never seen one of these by Freeman. From the Columbus, OH craigslist (not mine)...

New Holland made self propelled balers at one time as well....but never seen one with a cab.

Lots of Freeman balers in alfalfa country in eastern Washington- Bet there are several tucked away in barns. Now, they mostly use big engine powered New Hollands. They have to bale at night to get enough moisture to hold the bales together. Mostly tow them with pickup trucks, so the operator can listen to tunes while they bale.

One neighbor had a NH with cab, sold it when he retired
Other neighbor still has NH with cab. I assume they have A/C!!!
But I cant tell you what models they were.

I ran a self propelled Freeman 330 one summer for a guy. Nice rig. It had air conditioning. Some of the older ones didn't have much room in the cab for a very big guy. You can bale faster with it since you don't have as much turning radius on the ends. Also you sit where you can see pickup and feeder and watch bales come out. There are a lot of them out here in Washington, mostly 3 tie. A local guy has put several together using a JD soundguard cab. They are kinda spendy but very comfortable and used friendly.

This open station NH "Haycruiser" is a regular visitor to the Pageant of Steam (Canandaigua, NY).

Had to have been a hot, dirty job to operate....

Between the choppy ride and the shaking of the baler I'll bet it feels good to get off of one of those things at the end of a long day!

I can only imagine I rode in a new Holland one time
just down the road never got to see it operate . As
much as my little international baler moves I
wouldn?t want to ride it for 12 or 14 hours a day

For the few seconds you could see, did you notice how much the operator was jerking back and forth? That can't possibly be comfortable.

I can only imagine it would be quite the ride I think I?d run the slip clutch a little looser so the flywheel could do more of its job and take up some of that jerking

Interesting the twin Wisconsin THD(?) engines. I presume this was to provide independent control of ground speed while maintaining full power/RPM to the baling mechanism?

My next door neighbor has two 2017 Freeman sp balers they are 14x18 Two twine everything is John Deere except for baler. Will handle 600 + bales per hour. Freeman has built heavy duty balers for over 50 years.

Yes it used one for traction unit,,one for the baler operation.

Tim Sweeney took me to a show in Ohio a few years ago . There was an open station New Holland self propelled baler on display .
I could not imagine operating a machine in dust like that .

Serious straw baling. These were Massey units with their own engine, pull type with a controller in the cab of the tractor or truck that controls bale weight, hitch hydraulic position, engine start up, shut down, power engagement and most anything you can think of that you might want to do.
