Wolfie.......would you believe ALL flathead N-Engines have their s/n the same place??? Ittza weak hand stamped number on a flat boss just aft of the oilfilter bracket under the cylinder head gasket. 4-speed 8N s/n start with 8N. 3-speed 9N/2N's start with 9N. (don't ask) Surprizingly enuff, 9N engines can be installed on 8N's and 8N engines can be installed on 9N's. Isn't that amazing??? ........respectfully, the stamped Dell
