setting tire width

Hi all, any good ideas where to set the width of rear tires for best traction for pulling when you have spin-out rims.

I liked to keep my rears as close to the other pullers as posible. On a track with a wet end when everyone else was trying to stay away from the holes dug by the longest pull so far, I drove into his tracks and got him by 2 inches for the trophy. On a dry track you can move over a tire width to stay in the zone and miss both holes that was dug by a track hole digging track blocker. A big difference in rear tire width could cause you to have to move over to keep out of holes and not be on the best pulling path.

Talking antique first gear pulling not hot rods.

If the wheels are as narrow as possible, you will need to do less braking if one wheel has better traction. Wheel width has no impact on the amount of pull. Track conditions might indicate a preferred wheel spacing.
