sharpening bush hog blades

trying to come up with tools and methods for sharpening bush hog blades, without removing blades. folks around here use an angle grinder, which to me is not all that good. do you have any suggestions?

Easy. hoist the front of the hog up on a few solid wood blocks [ no concrete blocks]. Lock on all the brakes, engind off, in gear. Wheels chocked. Lay alongside the left side, front, and use my angle grinder with a coarse blade, eye and ear protection, and sharpen the front of each blade as it rotates around. Just reach under, DO NOT get your body under, just an arm or two. Easy.

I do pretty much like fbh44. First chock the tractor wheels then lift the rear of the 'hog to about 4' off the floor with a front loader. Then for safety CRIB IT WITH SUBSTANTIAL WOOD BLOCKS OR JACK STANDS!!

I can now go at the knives from a sitting position with a 7" angle grinder using a coarse (36? grit) wheel.

Eye and ear protection are an absolute must! Long sleeves and gloves are also highly recommended(!)

I do ours the same as fbh44 and Bob, block it up safely and crawl under it. A 4 1/2 grinder is a little easier to handle under the deck, and I don't try to get them too sharp. We have a lot of rocks, so mine are kind of self sharpening. If you run the pto up to speed it doesn't make much difference how sharp they are, and if your blades are dull you have less tire trouble!

Just saw the other night how someone sharpened there blades. The way they sharpened them they looked like shark teeth said they worked really well in tall thick grasses and weeds. I take mine off so much easier to work on.

I know that if you continue to sharpen your blades without balancing them it will be sooner rather than later and you'll be replacing seals and bearings--- take the blades off sharpen them but make sure each pair weighs the same to prolong the seal and bearing life. Also a sharp blade takes less power.
