Sheared bolts

I've got 4 sheared bolts
at the back of the
tractor. Can anyone
tell me if they go into
a boss (therefore being
a blind hole) or do they
end in the differential
case? I am assuming
they were for attaching
the drawbar.

I can't get your pictures to open.

What Tractor? I think the four that go up into the bottom of the differential case, to hold a drawbar bracket at the rear, are blind holes but I am not 100% certain.

You cannot paste pictures into posts here. To post pictures look down the page a bit from the box where you type a reply, and you will see a bar that says ''Upload Photos/Videos''. Below that is a button that says ''Choose Files''. Click on that button to go to your device where you can search the files in your device (computer, tablet, phone) to find the picture you want post, select your picture, then click the ''Open'' button and the program will upload that picture to your post. There is a size limit of about 7 MB of pictures/video per post (not per thread). That can be one picture or the total of several pictures in a post. This is the same in Modern and Classic views. Some cell phone pictures need to be reduced before they will post. And sometimes it takes a bit for them to upload, so don't hurry the process and use the preview button to see that the picture(s) is there before hitting submit.

Thank you Jim for the tutorial. I'm trying to work from my phone and can't see the letters when it is small then loose most of the page when I enlarge it. Might be an age thing. I'll try loading again in a future post.

Bob, that part won't do me any good if I can't get the old bolts out. That's why the question of blind hole. I don't know if they were twisted off or sheared, but I can't imagine the force needed to shear them off all at once.

You are going to have to use an easy-out to get them out of the housing.

Can you weld a washer to them, then a nut to the washer? They may turn out by doing that.

The bolts are broken off up in the casting, and a welder I'm not.

In the past I have used left-handed drill bits. I start out with a smaller bit. Sometimes this will be enough to unscrew the broken bolt out. If not, I use a bigger bit which will usually snag the bolt and screw it out.

I've done that with smaller screws. Can't hurt to try.
