Shell Rotella vs other brands

Is there a difference between Shell Rotella and
other brands of 15w40 diesel motor oil? The Rotella
is becoming hard to find in my area.

Any brand of engine oil is going to be superior to what was available mid-last century. As long as the viscosity is correct for your engine's condition and operating environment, it will be happy. I use Farm Oyl 15W40 year round.

I went to Delo about 5 years ago prior to that I was a Rotella man.
I had more customers that used Delo so switched. I service two newer Dodge diesels that call for Rotella when they go out of warranty they will get Delo.

I'm a Mobil Delvac user, been satisfied with it for decades. There is a difference in the ratings between Delvac and Delo compared to Rotella if you look at the energy star.
If you really want to have your head spin about oils go to Bob is the oil guy https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/.
If you want to maintain your tractor buy any oil on the shelf at Walmart.

Before I changed the oil over to Shell Rotella 15W40 last November, I had a terrible time finding it on auto supply store shelves. (The guys behind the counter would shrug & say It's hard to come by now. But I noticed this last weekend that it had magically reappeared in stock. So it could be a regional thing (I live in SW Missouri).

Maybe it is a regional thing. Walmart, TSC and others in my area have it on their website but listed as not available at stores in my area. I'm in southern middle Michigan. Thank you, everyone for your input.

I usually buy Farm & Fleet brand oil's in 2 gallon jugs at Atwood's when it is on sale .

I don't do it often , but you can buy it on the Walmart site , pay for it online , the run in to lay away and it is ready to go . Out of the store in just a few minutes and I didn't blow my budget on a bunch of stuff I didn't need .

Seems when I go in Walmart it is hard to compare prices vs size vs brand . It is easy on the computer . Same with oil filters , starter fluid , atf , and other auto supplies that I stock up on .

Also if it is over $35 they will ship it to you for free on most items . Years ago I bought 3 gallons of 2 cycle oil at $12 each . Free shipping . Now I don't have to buy those $3 bottles that make a gallon of fuel . I keep one at the house , one at the barn , and one at the shop .

It's served us well for three generations. It's now a brand owned by Central Harvest States (CHS) farmer's cooperative out the Twin Cities.

That should be CENEX Harvest States.
