Does it look like the end of the shaft is bent? "If" it is can it be straightened? It gets too grainy when I blow up the pic. I haven't gotten it yet, seller isn't home for a week but it was too good of a deal to pass up. Thinking about sticking it in my pos I also need a lever for it as he lost it. Should I get a rebuild kit for it?

Very hard to tell. It may just be a play on the eyes since it is sitting over the gravel floor and inside of its shadow. But the shadow seems to show that the tip is dipping towards the floor.

If it is bent almost make you wonder if the donor tractor engine separated from the rear and caused it to bend.

Ya I can't seem to tell if its my eyes
playing a trick or not. I guess if it is I
hope to either fix it or I guess keep it
for parts. The seller says it was in good
shape minus the handle he lost. This is a
cl find and I can't believe nobody bought
it. That's how cheap it was and it was out
of state cl I found it on.

If the price is good and it leaves you room to rebuild it than by all means get it.

I picked mine up totally rebuilt ground up painted and in great looking condition for $850 plus $35 to ship. Came with shims and gaskets. I still keep an eye out for them and see them in the same condition going for around the same price.
I had some leads on others for about $400 - $500 but they needed a total tear down and the gears looked pretty beat up.

Transmissions of any sort was always something I had no interest in working on. Engines are my thing.

Yep plenty of room to rebuild. Under $275
plus shipping. Though I'd not like to
replace that shaft considering what the
shaft is listed for on eBay. If nothing
else I'll sit on it till I fins another
cheap one I guess.

I have got to agree John Smith has a wealth of info regarding the Sherman combo. He also sells parts from time to time as he has them. He has an excellent write up on how to install and I believe rebuild one.
For less than $275 its a great deal even having to replace the shaft.

Ty. I've read it before and no greater time to re read it than sooner than later. I've got another 51 8n with a Sherman combo that we plan to take apart everything including the Sherman and rebuild it.

If your talking about the tip where the bearing goes. I think any good machine shop could turn it down till it's round and then build it back up again.
