Sherman Combo

Does any one know what it would take to put a Sherman combo out of a 601 into a Jubilee. Is the input shaft different? Thanks for you help.

I'm not 100% sure but I think it would be a simple swap, but it could need a different clutch disk. I ran into the clutch disk problem when I replaced the sherman combo in my 841 years ago. The one I had was the fine splined and the one O got to replace it was the course splined input shaft so we had to replace the clutch disk. Not sure if that applys to what you have or not

The 601 may have the fine spline or it could be the same. Not a show stopper. I still have not figured why Ford went with the fine spline in some tractors.

Okay, after reading your post again. I do not know if the shermans ever had the fine spline. It should be no problem.

Yep they had both the fine and course spline. I know because I ran into that on my 841 when I switch a bad sherman combo for a good one. When I did that I had to change clutch disks because on had the fine and the other course

While it is minutia.. you really should refer to your tractor by model number.. not series.

I believe we can assume '641' here.. right?

VERY easily. The 'nose'/input shaft assembly of the Sherman would simply need to be swapped out for the proper spline count one. A simple, 4 bolt 2 minute job. They are usually available used from a number of places but not always. Even the oil seal and gasket are still available new from your local dealer

Jim.........wouldn't it be eazier to swap the clutch disc to match the Sherman input shaft spline? (coarse spline vs fine spline) Seeing that the Sherman is complete right now. Be certain to put a NEW tranny input seal on Sherman shaft $3 (cheap)........Dell

Not necessarily. If you've ever had the chance to compare the 2 shafts side by side, you notice that even tho the shafts are the same length, the 'splines' don't seem to extend as far on the fine ones. I can only assume this is due to the thicker flywheel on the later serial number 100's and 1000's? I've recently had to swap a coarse spline shaft to a guy for the fine one he had AND I ended up with the fine spline clutch and pressure plate as well when he had problems with trying to convert an early 641 over to fine spline to match a fine Sherman he had bought.
It would be very helpful if someone that knows more about this could chime in here.......
