sherman issue, need advice

took my sherman input spline assembly into a performance shop to replace the bearings, short on time, the shop didn't realize there
were retaining screws and broke the assembly trying to push out the bearings, he fixed it looks like he welded it and redrilled and
taped new holes, do you all feel this will be ok? would hate to put this back together to have it last just a year,

thanks dave

I've never had one repaired Dave, but it seems to me if he broke
it, he should replace it. At least with a good used one from a local
salvage yard. Unless he's going to guarantee his work and include
removal/replacement of the transmission when/if it fails.
Then you're still left with a tractor that can't be used.

thanks Lawson, i need to drop off a seal to him this morning to finish it up, i will take a closer look at it, are these readily
available?
thanks dave

Dave,I don't quite follow you on what part was broken.

That would not be acceptable to me.

I would volunteer to find a replacement part at the shops expense in order to have it replaced with a non-damaged one.

Of course, the owner may well tell you to pound sand.

yes, i just picked it up from the performance shop, i was worried the part of the casing that the set screws went through was cast but looks like steel, the guy did a real good job welding it up and re drilling and tapping the set screw holes, going to run with it, not happy with what they did but the repair to it looks real good, my worst case scenario is i'll have to split the tractor years down to road

It is cast. I did the same bone-headed thing to mine when I was replacing my bearing. I got a replacement from John Smith.

There are three set screws part number 376119-S that hold the nose cone on the input shaft Without taking the allen head set screw out trying to separate will likely break the nose cone. I have seen this before when taken shermans out and the ones I have seen (only 2) were working and in good condition. This of course depends on the break and the repair. The break/crack and repair should also Not leak. After gasket and sherman is installed in tractor tip the bellhousing down put a pan overnight if pan is clean in the morning button it up your good to go.
