sherman overdrive

I have a "48 8N my father bought new with the over drive. While on a tractor drive this summer I happened to think about the oil supply for the overdrive. I assume the overdrive has to run in oil. Is there any way to check the oil level short of splitting the tractor?

naw.. you gots to split it each time tyou use it to check it.


the sherman replaces the trnas input shaft... it gets it's oil thru the front bearing fromthe trans.

keep trans clean and filled correctly..

you have to fill it before installation takes about a half a quart, if you put more than that in it. it will be hard to install without spilling it all over in the trans housing. after that the trans oil should splash into the rear of the sherman and lube it. there is no fill plug in the step up trans just and drain plug.

The Sherman is splash lubed from the main transmission. Only time you have to fill it on installation.
