Sherwin Williams

I hear a lot that some of you guys go to sherwin williams to get paint. I have one local and haven't been in there in a good while but what kind of paint do they have? I never knew they had automotive or sparyable paint but I guess I never asked. Does anyone know off the top of their head what paint code they have for IH red? Also before I get ahead of myself is it expensive or relatively cheap? Thanks for any info.

Also do you think that they would have New Holland blue? I have to paint our 10 YEAR OLD TL80. Its rediculous because they didn't put a clear coat and its just chippin off and the thing sits inside when not in use. It'll definetly be gettin a clear this time. So I'll be askin a lot of questions about spraying technique in the future probly. Thanks again

Not all Sherwin Williams stores have automotive paint. Most have only house paint etc. They may or may not have premixed New Holland paint. They will have at least acrylic enamel and urethane. They can mix about any code you want, just as PPG and DuPont do. They can mix IH 50 and IH 2150. Prices will be competitive with PPG and DuPont, they will have relatively inexpensive and expensive paints. As far as I know Sherwin Williams, Martin Senour and NAPA are the same -- I can be corrected on that, though, as I have never used any of them. As to clear coat, farm equipment manufacturers use an entirely different painting process, than the repaint people do.

CNKS I think that you are right. I have never gotten anything from a sherwin willams store, but I have been told from a paint rep that it is the NAPA paint just in a different can. If I had to guess it would prob spray about the same as the NAPA stuff.
If your SW store does do automotive paints you might get a pint and do a couple of test panels just to see what happens.

CNKS is correct. sherwin williams makes the martin senyor lines that napa sells. cross fire is the common napa single stage urethane. it is a good economy performance paint line.

You local Sherwin William's store that sells house paint won't have automotive paint. At least the one we have doesn't. They do have a SW store in the Baltimore area that does. I had a car painted and the shop used Sherwin William's clear coat on it. It will probably cost in the $ 55.00 range for a quart. Dupont and Martin Senour are probably in the same price range. There's a man in Iowa that's restoring a McCormick Deering 22-36 and he bought two gallons of Dupont's Centari acrylic
enamel and it was around $200.00 per gallon. He also paid $25.00 for the paint code that's supposed to be the correct color gray for that tractor. That doesn't include the hardener and thinner. Back in the late 1970's I bought Martin Senour's acrylic enamel to paint a vehicle. It was a mobile field dynamometer and was put on display when they had an open house for a lot of the military vehicles. This was prior to 911. The paint was about $30.00 a gallon back then. We painted it Air Force blue. Hal

I just purchased the Martin Senour Crossfire Platinum base and Finish 1 clear paint system for my truck (1998 Silverado). It was about $130 a gallon for the base, that was Emerald Green Metallic. Did the tailgate and door jams last night, the base laid down nice and flat, got some runs in the clear but that was operator error. All in all it seems like a decent product. The guy at Napa had painted his 2005 Chevy 3 years ago with the same paint (different color) and it looks great and is holding up well.

i repainted this m last year with sherwin williams paint and had no
problems with it.
i used the k3 urethane
