Shift lever

Is there any way to get the shift lever off of the shift plate on the Tranny of a TO-20.

under the plate ,the spring that holds the shifter in place must be removed

There is a little more to it than removing the spring.

1) remove the cover plate from the trans. case.
2) remove the spring and spring retainer.
3) remove the shift boot cover.
4) Remove the shift retaining pin.

This 4th step is not hard but takes a little looking at. There is a horz. retaining pin that must be tapped out. To get to it you have to tilt the lever to access it.
