Shifting problem

My TO20 is doing something different this year. I have a 3 point finish mower and I like to switch between 2nd and 3rd gear sometimes. But I can't seem to take it out of gear, especially 2nd. I try to relieve the gear bind by rolling it forward or back, or slip the clutch but that doesn't help. However, when I disconnect the PTO, the transmission will shift like butter. Any ideas?

My TO-20 is reluctant to shift out of those same gears too. I never tried disconnecting the PTO. I'll have to try that. I'm running UTF in mine.

This shifter Fork takes a lot of redneck force over the years.........
The fork is of a non Ferrous material ...
Yes, I own a Ferguson TEA-20 with the same internal Transmission parts as your T0 20....
Fortunately...your T0 20 has a two peace Transmission cover.
Remove cover and verify that SHIFTING FORK is NOT BENT........
Forty years ago this shifting fork was bent on my TEA20..

Bob....Owner of Tea-20 Ferguson that has been on my property since new.....

I will check that out. Thank you.

Do you have a ORC on the PTO shaft?
I think you're onto something here. In past years I used an ORC and the tractor always shifted just fine. This year I'm not using it and having problems shifting. I had forgotten that change. Please tell me what you're thinking and how it relates.

On a N not a Fergy. But a few times rotary mowing I've hit stuff and the blades jammed up up and motor stalled, I could not get the tractor to shift out of gear or start. I had to free the mower or rock the tractor to get it to shift. I had an ORC on it but I believe the PTO and and the gears were still jammed up

Hi one last time Mr. Jeff. Most of us advised check over your machine. Fix and troubles, then live with it. Nature of (pretty nice) beast. No intent to insult if you lack a left arm to manipulate the PTO lever, et cetera. The only semi politically correct may just say " man-up."

That's the problem, I can't get it out of gear and into neutral without pulling extremely hard on the shifter.
If you keep pulling the gear shift with excessive force, you shall BEND and or break the shifting fork, (1st and 2 nd shifter fork) as per picture.
I had to reduce the free play on the clutch PEDAL.
I eventually replaced the clutch assembly...all works great.

When it occurs try to push down the hydraulic lever if the hydraulic pump is working when you depress the clutch it may put little tention on power train.

While I can appreciate your concern of my physical prowess, I've had this tractor for the last 22 years and I'm pretty familiar with it's normal performance. I really doubt that I've lost that much masculinity since last fall. :)
