This has been up for two hours and no one has been ranting and bellowing about how useless electric vehicles are yet.

Our local grocery store chain, Giant Foods, has EV charging stations in the parking lot. Went to the store last night and a Tesla was charging next to one. When I came out he was unhooking so I stopped to talk to him. He's young, college age. He said he's had the car for 2 years and in that time has paid a total of 2 dollars to charge it. He utilizes free chargers. He said that he has noticed battery degradation in 2 years of about 25 fewer miles on a full charge.

I asked if the free chargers are likely to go away, and he said yes, they will eventually.

He said he absolutely loves it and cannot imagine having to own a gasoline vehicle again.

it will beinteresting to see how state and local governments handle the loss of revenue from motor fuel tax with the evs. some speculate an increase in licensing fees for evs, other say a device in the vehicles computer to send mileage in and taxed by miles driven. dont know for sure, but there is no such thing as a free lunch

I don't believe I've ever see a public charging station of any kind in my area.

I live in Southern Middle Tennessee about 40 miles due south of Nashville, near the town of Spring Hill. I. too, have never seen a public charging station. I personally, only know one person who has an EV and she has her own private charger There probably are public chargers around here but I don't know where they are.

If you want one, you go ahead and buy one. I personally don't want one. Each to his/her/its own. The only rant I
would have is if somebody tried to force one on me.

If I were in charge, I would put a road tax on the electricity used at charging stations to make up for loss of fuel tax.

And an additional charge to make up for the expense

I'm with you Jim,,I don't care one way or the other,,just don't cram it down my throat,,or make me pay for yours...If these things are good let them evolve..but don't kill the economy by forcing them on us...

Hybrids make sense to me. They save on gas. The full electrics will use more fuel than combustion engines!

The grid needs upgrades even without electric vehicles. Seems everyone has forgotten Texas February 2021. They're just the latest and most glaring example.

Government allows the power companies to charge just enough to keep their heads above water, no more. Then they mandate this and mandate that and mandate the other thing... All that costs money, which they're not allowed to collect from their customers, who are the ones reaping the benefits of the service.

Everyone, no matter which side of the coin they're on, thinks electricity is a god given right and they should not have to pay for it.

So someone who had the $$$ (about $40-100K) for a Tesla has been getting "free" fuel. Who pays for that? The taxpayer. What a racket!
