My shoulders have been hurting real bad the last 6 months or so worse laying down at night. This is tractor related because after I finish cutting all my grass with mine they're real bad. The Orthopedic Doctor took x-rays and said arthritis. My doctor had thought that and gave me Manoxicillin for 3 months but it didn't help. So next Friday he's going to do ultra sound guided injections in both of them. Anybody ever had that done? And did it help? I know I've got to get some relief waking up all night not getting good sleep is getting old. I take pain medication 3 to 4 times each day for my nerve pain and Neuropathy but it doesn't touch that pain. I'm retiring in 67 more days maybe not setting at a desk using a computer all day may help to. Thanks.

Never had injections on a shoulder, but several years ago I had constant pain in my right shoulder. An MRI showed a bone spur had developed.

An orthopedic surgeon 'scoped it and no more problem.

Mom has severe arthritis in one shoulder, the cartilage is almost all gone. Last March her doctor prescribed a steroid injection that eased her pain a lot for about 3 months until it wore off. Two weeks ago I took her in for a second shot that helped her a lot again.

Local anesthetic: 5 mL BUPivacaine PF 0.25 % (2.5 mg/mL)
Corticosteroid: 40 mg methylPREDNISolone acetate 40 mg/mL

I’ve had a number of shoulder injections Before I retired. Most of them gave 6 months to a year relief. haven't had To have one after retiring.

I got one about 2 weeks ago. I couldn't lift my right arm out level in front of me. Full use now. I over taxed it using a rope saw on a high limb a few months ago and put off going in to the doctor. I have to get one every couple of years. Same for the knees except the last one was in 2018.

I used to get cortisone shots in both shoulders that stopped the pain. I hadn't needed it done for two or three years and the pain was minimal to none. But maybe 18 months ago I started to get bad pain in my left shoulder. I couldn't straighten out my left arm and raise it to the side higher than my shoulder without some real shooting pain.

My DR. sent me in for a cat scan and it revealed that I had a torn rotator cuff. I asked him about recovery time after the surgery and what he said did not give me any good thoughts about getting the surgery. I decided to tough it out without surgery. He said it would most likely not heal itself. I was careful how I used my left shoulder especially climbing up and down from my tractors. It's been about a year now and it doesn't seem to bother me at all now. I can reach up, down and around with no pain. I just don't think about it any more. I'm glad I did not get the surgery. I live by myself so the recovery time would not have been a good thing.

I could not get much relief from the standard pok'em Orthopedic doc. I went to a sports med doc that does ultra sound. The first one did not work out well on the second one he gave me a double dose it has been super good. I am at the end of my rope on injections and need a shoulder replacement.

If he gets into the socket Its a panful shot : ( its not a in and out deal he will be in it for awhile. That day I got a shot in both shoulders and a gel injection in one knee. On the next visit the double it up deal he would only do one shoulder. He told me the reason most do not do ultra sound is they are not trained to do it. I figure a pok and done 1 min. are less the ultra sound 20 min. I can look on my EOB I think they charged Medicare $1500 for the ultra sound shots verses $200 for a pok.

I understood that when he gave me the cortisone injections, it was in the socket. That's where the bursal sack is that contains the fluid that lubricates the joint.

Wow, sounds like no fun at all. I hope you get fixed. When my Doc gave me the cortisone shots he first sprayed my shoulder with some stuff that deadened it so I felt no pain. It kind of felt like it was some kind of intense cold or something.

He finally sent me to an Orthopedic surgeon when the last cortisone shot had no affect. The surgeon sent me for a cat scan and said I had a torn rotator cuff.

I planed to have the left shoulder replaced in November. Kidney stones and an enlarged prostrate issue may derail that plan.

Ever since I fell down the conning tower ladder of the SSBN 633 in 1977 I have had right shoulder problems. I get an injection every 3 month from the V.A. which helps a little

Googling 'manoxicillin' gets me bupkis. Was it maybe 'amoxicillin' your doctor prescribed? Amoxicillin is a powerful antibiotic which would be appropriate for a penicillin-resistant bacterial infection. But for arthritis? I'm not a doctor, but that sounds like malpractice to me. Did he think you had an infection?

Which doctor wants to inject something into your shoulder? The orthopedist or your primary care physician? I wouldn't let the same doctor who prescribed an antibiotic for arthritis inject anything into my shoulder. But if it's the orthopedist he presumably knows what he's doing.

Do you know what, exactly, the doc intends to inject? It might be cortisone or a gel. Here's some information on both:
Medical treatment for Osteoarthritis of the Shoulder (NYU Langone)

What are you using to cut your grass? A push mower, a riding lawn tractor, full size tractor? Does it have power steering? Maybe get a different mower or hire the grass cut if that's aggravating your problem. Maybe resting your shoulder will help. I have sporadic hip pain. Usually I'm fine but sometimes it's so bad I can hardly walk. I haven't narrowed down the cause but DIET and MEDICATIONS seem to bring this on. I don't wear a tin foil hat but this is not necessarily an issue for an MD to fix.

I think my mom used defective rejected parts to put me together. Kinda like building airplanes.
I think I put together with rejected vertebrae L4 and L5. No signs of chipped bones. My vertebrae have no hinges

Both male grandparents had arthritis. Mom's dad has an arthritis called AS. He walked with a curved spine looking at his feet.
Dr thought I had AS. My friends said they didn't know what they were talking. They said the Dr should have used 2 SS. lol

If you damage a joint, it will come back to haunt you as you get older.
A few years back I was getting off a tractor, stepped wrong and sprained my ankle.
I had to use a riding mower to get back to the house.
I had a cat scan, my cat walked around my ankle 3 times. Meowed 3 times, meaning All was good or she was hungry.
Took 3 days for swelling to go down. Wrapping the ankle helped a lot. I used horse wrap. vet wrap and other names
Years after that my ankle reminds me of my mistake.
My right shoulder has been talking to me for at least 3 decades.
my 95 GMC pickup didn't have an armrest. I had to use a box the right height for an arm rest or I couldn't drive the truck.
in 2007 my new GM came with an armrest..
Please let us know if you find a cure for arthritis. Dr claim there are 50 kinds of arthritis.
Dr can turn you into a junkie. too many have been sued.
We now have to turn to cheap illegal imported drugs.
because imports have put Made In America Illegal hard drugs out of business.
I don't know what we are going to do is they shut down the cheap way to import drugs.
I think if they seal the borders, maybe the Made In America manufacturing will return.

I think it's amoxicillin, I've had it in the past. Another anti-inflammatory.

Probably Meloxicam and anti-inflammatory.

The Orthopedic Dr is the one giving the shops and I misspelled the med name it was the one for arthritis. Yeah getting older isn't for sissy's that's for sure. I'm turning 62 in September and that's when i'm retiring. I have a tractor with power steering but all of the turning to go around things is what's causing that I believe I can't just go back and forth in a straight line. Thanks everybody for their input.

Here's a little bit of advice to you guys with tractors. Both my tractors have front end loaders on them. My torn rotator cuff really started to act up when using the MF202 a lot. It especially hurt when getting down off that tractor. What I would do is place one hand on the loader frame and the other hand on the fender. I would then lower myself down putting all my weight on my shoulders. That's when the pain became really bad.

Then one day I had the proverbial light bulb over my head turn on. I figured that if getting down off that tractor made the pain bad then there had to be a better way. What I finally figured out was that climbing up on the tractor did not cause any pain, it was only getting off that caused the pain. Then it dawned on me that I should get off the same way that I got up. So...I got off backwards same as climbing up. This caused no pain at all because I was not putting all my weight on my shoulders. Look for the little things like that being the cause of pain and modify how you do these things.
