shutting down 70 diesel

when shutting down,the 70 diesel how do you decompress an not engage the ring gear on the flywheel with the single lever? wondering if it can be done without any damage.

Just pull the lever back barely, as to not engage the teeth. Just enough to decompress. Takes a little getting used too, but it can be done.

Try Attaching a lever to the rt. side or use your rt. big toe if you have small feet.LOL

I live about 3 blocks from the Mid Ohio race course, north of Johnsville.

When not starting it with the cranking engine, I've decompressed my 70D to start by a coast down a hill, pulling with another tractor or by belting to another tractor by pushing forward with my right toe on lower end of the the lever Dan shows having clamped the bolt to.

On the other hand, I don't decompress when shutting down. I never wanted to break anything though I know it's unlikely. I always harbored the thought I was less likely to break something if I just left it alone at shut down and let him coast to a stop.

Always thought the bouncing back and forth at shut down was nothing compared to the pounding it takes at rated load which it will do (with proper maintenance & care) for years on end!

I could be all wet too but those are my "two coppers" for today.
