Shuttle in 580 Super E

My Super E goes great backwards, forward not so much. I have a spare shuttle unit, in the process of rebuilding it . I found broken springs in the clutch pack, they are about the diameter of a pencil and about 1 1/4 long. It uses 12 of them and Case wants $12.90 each. I have been told that you do not need to use 12, 6 is adequate. Any Case experts have an opinion? T I A....... Sam Womer
