my ford 501 14-92 seems to have a permanent arch built in to the cutterbar. i have the knife out and all the guards off, and it has a couple of inch arch to it. i'm worried when i get done rebuilding it, the knife won't slide well. any thought? can it be straightened/how?

When I was a Kid, Dad would put one end on a wood block of wood and drive the car up the bar (very slowly) my job was to watch the bar and tell him when to stop. Ken Sweet

My old Int. cycle had enough arc to it I wanted it fixed too. Stripped it and put a block of wood near the tractor end so the other end hung just off the ground. Put a spot of heat to the leading edge. Just enough to let it droop a bit. Moved over and repeated 3-4 times. That was 3 years ago, holding up great now.

I should explain a bit better. I heated the bar about halfway between the front and rear edges, not right on the leading edge as it seems I meant.
