side mount mower

I have this Dearborn mower, tag says 14 68 pretty sure. Guessing it should be red instead of blue, but it is what it is. Question is will this fit something never than an 8N? Sure would be nicer with live power and a slower first gear.

Yes it will fit other Fords, I had a neighbor that had one mounted on a 800 or 801 Ford tractor years ago, it looked to be the same exact sickle bar mower that you have pictured

You have a nice rig for sure but it does lack the features you mention.
Will it fit on later tractors? Ford might have built a set of brackets to adapt it to a later tractor. But most of that Dearborn stuff was N specific with maybe a few brackets here and there that woulda fit a Jube or Hundred. So the search might be a long one. Of course with a torch and welder...
Trouble is, I suspect that even a Hundred with the 5 sp and lpto will have a too fast 1st for what you are looking for on a side mower.
If you are looking for the ultimate side sickle mower tractor think about a 1965-75 Ford 2110 LCG (low center of gravity). A lot of government entities used them for hiway mowers. Would have a later Ford side mounted mower. 8sp, live hyds, lpto, power steering and about 33 hp.
They are getting long in tooth and are finally being retired now but are still very worthy machines. There is one on govdeals this week, albeit without the side mower.

It will bolt right on a 9n/2n which has a lower first gear. Other than that you will have to change out or fab up brackets. if you put it on a later model tractor you will likely have to change out the pulley for the larger pto shaft. Had one on my 4000, it had a sherman which slowed down the tractor but also slowed down the pto.

It is NOT what it is, you can paint it!!! The neighbor farmer that I worked for as a kid, mowed all the hay for 60 milkers for twenty years with a rig just like that, except his was seven feet. Did he ever fly!! and it cut as clean as could be.

I mounted, and cut many acres in the late 40's and 50's with on a 1939 9N. Hard to mount and so left on all summer. could still pull side delivery rake and 2 wheel big trailer, back trailer in barn, pull the hay fork rope. Of course the PTO shieve was 1 1/8" and support was under right fender bolts to support all and lift cable pulley, which was attach? to right lift arm minus the adjustabke lift link. The two other main tractor mounts were on the right 2 transmission bolts and on the left 2 transmission to support the safety trip out, which connected to the clutch pedal.
With the short pitman arm you could trim hedges. The only other main problem on the 9N and 2N was that when the mower clogged, it would pull down the clutch to stop forward movement, however that also set the left brake and jam the shifting lever in gear, so you could not do anything. I would carry an old steel fence post, so I could lift the cutting bar to release this pressure. The 8N should be better with just the clutch pedal on left.
Make sure you have al the above attachments as many tractors were sold with some of them on the tractor.
I gave Royse all my brochures of sale on them

Steve,
I know you've been hunting around for a few years to find your Dad's old 9n. Anyway i picked up this '39 9n last week in Miffinburg Pa. Owner said he bought it at an auction about 9 years ago. It did have an 8n bumper on it like your Dad's. Is there anything else you can remember about your Dad's tractor. It didn't by chance have a handle connected to the left brake pedal like this one. You can send me an email to talk further.
