I just happened to see this yesterday. Thought you might find it interesting. How a silo manufacturer transitioned into manufactured lumber.
I’ve worked with Unalam and am aware of Unadilla Silo, but never knew the connection.
Thank you.

I’ve previously read on laminated wood structure. As agriculture grew through the early decades of the 20th century the need to replace old barns and want for bigger barns created the need and opportunity for bigger structures made possible by the adhesive that were becoming available.

While the lapped laminated rafter idea wasn’t new the limits of a post and beam, gambrel roof, and horse shoe/ Gothic arch barn were limited by material. Most Arch roof barns were layered laminates pieced together and nailed. These typically were vertical spliced members sawed and laminated to form. In the second decade these assemblies were viewed differently thanks to factories, adhesives, and demand. Unidilla was an early player in the laminated truss. Now the member were turned horizontal, fit, glued, and pressed to cure to create a sturdy large truss that took design to the next level.
