Thanks to DPittman who sent the first picture this way. The other two were gleaned off the web.

The Prairieland Heritage Museum at Jacksonville Illinois.

It was re-roofing the silo. The museum barn and show grounds were part of the state hospital farm that's still across the street (abandoned now). They raised their own food for the hospital patients back in the day. Andy
And now we know. Thank you. Just got a message from the guy who used to run the show and he confirmed what you said and added that the barn behind the silo is where they fed beef cattle and the dairy barn was at the northeast corner of what is now the show grounds. A painted up nonfunctional steam engine sits on display there now.
I always thought the existing barn was the dairy barn.
Be nice to find out a construction date

St. Peter State Hospital Was set up similarly. Off the banks of the Minnesota River in the “Kasota” Stone region the farm site was on high ground where the soil changed to rich Nicollet loam. (Flying Belgian) the barn housed horses and cows and is impressive. I’ve been there as a contractor, not as a customer.

At one time the hospital was mostly self sufficient with animals, fields, and gardens. There are storage caves dug into the limestone side hill between the farm and hospital for all the winter stores.
