Silo update

A few weeks back I sent this picture to Notdb4600 and he was gracious enough to post it with his weekly silo pics. Last week I happened to drive by the place and couldn't believe my eyes! The entire farm site had been completely cleared! It was such a contrast I just had to share it.

It looks like the old farmstead was a hindrance to someone's farming operation and they gained an acre or more of productive ground by doing that. I have seen that around here before.
If I lived there I would make a small sign and post it near the road where the farmer will see it. On it I would thank the owner for leaving the silo. It is a beautiful monument to some long gone family's hopes, dreams, life and labor.

When the original owner passed away some 15 or 20 years ago, he left the building site to, I believe, Pheasants Forever.

The story I was told is that whoever runs that organization decided that, although it was good habitat for wildlife in general, it was not really good pheasant habitat. So supposedly they cleared it off with the intent of planting grasses, etc. which will provide good cover for pheasants.

I have no idea if this is true. I guess we'll wait till later this summer and see what takes place out there.

Another story I've heard is that many times these organizations will simply sell the land, and take the money and run. If that's the case, I would guess the new owner cleared it off so they could farm it.

As I mentioned, we'll see what happens.

Rich's Toys,
Please post what eventually happens.

We have seen many farmsteads left to just deteriorate to the point of no-return.... then doze it all under: house, out buildings, and groves of trees. SIGH.

Some were really beautiful, spacious,
two-story homes too - that IF a good roof had been kept on them, they'd still be nice homes. SO SAD!!!
