Didn’t take it apart yet I thought someone hear would know if it’s even possible to replace bearings on a 50 year old sawIt’s possible ,are they armature bearings ?
Are plain bronze bearings ?
Or are they miniature type ball thrust bearings ?
Just have no ideas if plain bearing's, going to be cost prohibitive, i would say. Not going find ?
A few years ago I was able to repair a craftsman table saw with bearings I got off eBay. If I recall they were arbor bearings that had failed and had it bound up. They sold the bearings in packages so I had bearings left over but they were inexpensive at the time. Check to see if you can find any numbers on the bearing(s) as they can help insure that you get the right one. We have a store close by that stocks and can order most bearings especially if they have a legible number or an old bearing to go by. Good luck , I hope you can fix it.I have a 1970’s skill circular saw with play in the bearings/motor.can the bearings be replaced.?it was my dads saw and I prefer not to just throw it away for a new one.
If the saw still has a manufacturer's plate on it, you can probably still look up an exploded-view drawing and parts list to find out if the bearings are sleeve or sealed ball bearing and to get an idea how to disassemble the saw. The parts list might only have Skill specific parts numbers, but the actual ball bearing will have useful numbers stamped on then to cross reference and order new bearings. From there you can find replacements in any local hardware store or online. Sleeve bearings will probably be pressed in generic sizes, also found in any hardware store. Oilite is a name brand of sleeve bearings.I have a 1970’s skill circular saw with play in the bearings/motor.can the bearings be replaced.?it was my dads saw and I prefer not to just throw it away for a new one.
Yes, old tools can be repaired if you have the right tools and a place to buy bearings, If it bearing is available Coldwell bearings in terre haute will have it, If it is a bushing I have made them fit using my lath. Only problem I have had rebuilding old mothers is the insulation is falling off the wires and the brushes are shot, good lock,I have a 1970’s skill circular saw with play in the bearings/motor.can the bearings be replaced.?it was my dads saw and I prefer not to just throw it away for a new one.

Never seen them before. The one on the up down arbor is shot in photo, rotated it , to hold , doubt ful it will last long. I don’t know where to find any it’s so old,. If you know where to get them let me know. Thanks
Pictures of outside case with the bushing supporting the spherical bushing . Tool takes a lot of abuse from operation.Makes you wonder why??
Dennis, without measurements, I couldn't get very far, but I did find a bunch on eBay and elsewhere, searching for spherical bronze bushing. You might have to buy 1000 of them, but you'd have some spares thenPosted photos to show you bearings design.
