Sleeve puller suggestions

I am going to wind up replacing cylinder sleeves and pistons on 1750 diesel. Does anyone have a suggestion for a sleeve puller? Or ones to avoid?

You don't have to pull those very far before they pop loose and you can lift them out. Three quarters of an inch maybe. The biggest thing will be a big piece of threaded rod stout enough to do it. I suggest fine thread. A piece of I beam or channel to lay on top of the block is all you need there. I used half inch plate at the bottom where it goes at the bottom of the sleeve. Mine's cut flat on two sides so it'll slip down from the top, then I have a universal from a three quarter inch breaker bar welded to that and to the threaded rod. Drop it down, hook it under the sleeve, put it through the channel and put the nut on it. That's all there is to it.

Although I agree with RR, tool companies sell them. Probably harbor freight, Snap on and Cornwell. Used to be a bunch on the internet and in tractor magazines. Do some searching.

Lay the beam or channel on top of the block? You need block the beam/channel up off the block a couple inches don't you, so the sleeve can start up and out of the block, don't you? Just trying to make sure Sheriff gathers all the things he needs before starting.

A hardwood block and a big hammer is all you really need for those wet sleeves if you have the crank out of the way? If not something like Randy says. They wont be hard to get out, heck I have had some come out with the piston. Different story for a dry sleeve engine.

The channel needs to be wider than the sleeve and sit on the block.

So he would need a 5" or wider channel, to clear the sleeve between the channel legs. Thanks for clarifying.

I’ve also used some hardwood blocks with success. . A piece of modern 2” X 4” won’t work because it’s too soft. I’m talking about good, hard piece of hedge or oak.
