Slip Clutch

There was another thread that mentioned ORC's and Slip Clutches however it didn't give much info about a slip clutch.

Is this some attachment like an ORC that can just be slipped on to a brush hog? I have an ORC so I'm not looking for info on that.

This is the first I've heard of a slip clutch. What exactly is it and can anyone show an actual picture of one?

Slip clutch takes the place of a shear pin. Most brush hog have one or the other. You can buy them separate, but I have never done that.

A slip clutch is very simple. It is made to take the plus of or add to the safety of a shear pin/bolt. A slip clutch is a device made to slip before parts like U-joints and drive shafts etc brake. But the problem is a slip clutch can rust up from sitting and then you end up with something that should work but does not work when it should. I have seen more then one machine turned to junk because of a slip clutch that did not slip when it should have or a shear pin replaced with to hard a pin/bolt. A lot of the older balers had slip clutches shear pins and ORCs built into them
