SM hydraulic plumbing

Here are some pics of the mess I have made. Can anyone tell me where these lines should go. The christmas tree valve is new/used, the old one was seized. I need to hook up the new/used remote.Behlen power steering, and two outlets. I tried to hook it up the way it was and I'm just not getting it.

Thanks for any help

The priority valve , the one with 4 lines to or from it needs the pressure line from pump to top port at front of it. Rear line on top of it goes to inlet of power steering unit. Return from power steering unit, small port on priority valve and pop off port of relief valve goes back to reservoir. Looks like they may be like that, except the relief valve blow side hose isn't hooked up. Port in bottom of prority valve goes to front or left side hole of 2 way valve and the relief valve tee in between. return for 2 way valve should be out the bottom and back to the belley pump housing thats being used as a reservoir. 2 ports on rear of 2 way valve go to hydraulic cylinder if used. The priority valve is a webster brand that has a relief valve in it for the power steering unit also. thats why it has the one port back to reservoir or suction side of pump.

I have a dormant SMTA with a Christmas Tree valve, priorty valve, remote hydraulics at the rear, Behlen PS actuator, and live pump. It will be somewhat similar to your tractor with the exception of the Lift-All reservoir/valve combo.

I will post pictures tomorrow. I can't begin to describe it as I don't understand some of the connections.

As for two double acting circuits, you will have to get an open center two spool valve and plumb it into the two rear facing ports on the Christmas tree valve. I am still not clear what you mean by "two outlets". Perhaps you mean one double acting circuit. That would be two hoses and disconnects. If so, forget what I said about the two spool valve.

So far this is what I've put together. My power steering works, the two outlets work (I even Blew one of the old lines). And Wardner Sorry for the confusion, it would be two outlets one with up and one with down pressure.

Do you guys think I'm hurting anything with this setup.
I still don't know what that relief valve was for

Should I make any pressure adjustments on the priority valve.

One other unrelated question, should the front tires be firestone like the rears, for restoritive values.

Looks like you have it. Except the relief valve is to protect the system from overpressure. Weakest link in system is probably the gear train on front of engine that drives the pump. If the hydraulics are overloaded or you move a cylinder to end of stroke and hold it to long the pressure will quickly raise if pump is good. With a relief valve when overpressure is reached the valve opens and sends pressure to low side of system. This keeps parts and hoses from breaking. If your relief valve is good you could put a tee and nipple in place of the 90 going into remote control valve. Put relief valve in other end of 90 and return line can go in return line or any opening on side of reservoir if its gutted inside. Looks like it is.
Only way to know if any adjustments are needed is by pressure checking.
Tires are up to you, the hydrulic system is not 100% original so I wouldn't worry about the tires.

How do you pressure check. Reason why I ask is the power steering does'nt seem as strong as it should be(I could be wrong though.

Most times on something like that I put a tee in line thats checked with gauge, and a hand shut off valve in line at tee downstream of pressure. Shut valve just long enough to check pressure. When checking at pressure line from pump I wouldn't let it build over 1200 to 1250 psi. If the pump will build that its good enough.
To check pressure to power steering from priority valve, put tee and valve in line from priority valve to steer unit. If no gauge you can hook pump pressure line to line going to power steering just to see if its better. That may tell you something about the priority valve but won't let you know if pump pressure is low if no better. Settings of relief valves needs good pump pressure.
