could you try an old car engine water pump? it should come with a pulley already attached. Not sure if they generate enough head to lift 10 feet, but it might be worth a shot to stop at a junk yard and grab a pump and hoses to adapt.

A swimming pool pump could be direct coupled or belt driven as well. I find the motors give out before the pumps do...

You have a solution in one K Effective . I coupled a swimming pool pump to a small petrol engine from an ancient Suffolk 1,1/2hp cylinder mower to use as a transfer pump at the farm . I took the pump's stator wiring out and stripped the rotor down to a bare shaft . Fitting a pulley was easy and allowed me to adjust the rpm to suit a good flow at a fast idle .
I cut the motor housing down so it was a little less bulky and re used the motor back plate and bearing for support .

My brother rigged a GMC water pump onto an old curved weed eater shaft. It pumped an amazing volume of water, but I don't know what the 10 foot depth would have done.

It will need to be a self priming centrifugal pump.

The closer to the surface level of the water you can get it the better.

If you can't find a self priming pump it will need a check valve at the end of the suction hose.

Any pump will need a suitable suction strainer to protect it from debris.

Check the numbers, the head capability, GPM, RPM, needed horse power. Guessing is expensive and prone to fail, best get it right the first time.

New pumps are expensive, might find something used on Ebay.

I think you can still get parts for a lift style pump, like is used with a wind mill. Then all you need is a pumpjack.

I may have posted about this before but you
reminded me of it again. I remember as a
kid in the early 60s there was an ad for
the GMC pickup engine. They had some over
heating problems with it.
So they redesigned the water pump to put
out a higher volume.
To show how well it worked they put a V8
engine on a stand and used the coolant pump
to pump all the water out of a swimming
pool.
The announcer was yelling over the engine
which was wound up tight and pumping a huge
spray of water. I guess it drained the pool
in just a couple/few hours.
I was maybe 10 then and VERY impressed.

Search for Jabsco pedestal mount impeller pump. Can be used as bilge pump in boat.
Mine is about 75 years old ,mounted to 2 inch plank and run by V belt.

appreciate the replies some good ides here. like the wind mill style pumps and will ck out the jabsco. never thought of car water pump. thats what i lke about this forum lot of repurposing . i was thinking something like in 3 world countries that you see but dont didnt know what type to look for . more discussion please crowspond .

I like solar or 12 volt submersible. Fill a tank at ground or above ground level with pump and use gravity for watering the garden. PTO sprayer pump might work but I dont know if they could suck up and self prime. Some even had pulleys on them

Ive seen a great number of PTO pumps both new and used around. They can run from $300 up to $3500 depending on your needs. They will self prime and run about 100gph at 540rpm. These can be run off of a side engine pulley belt with modification to the PTO connection on the pump itself or you can run it with a strong riding mower engine.but dont expect too much output with that.
