Small, cheap round baler suggestions

Age is catching up with me & small squares are hard on me. I?m thinking of a small round baler so i can handle bales with tractor and spear.
I think i want about a four by five size bale. What are some good ones? I know of someone with a Vermeer 504G which is stored inside but hasn?t been used in several years.

J D, my tractor is a Farmall 75C. It has 75 engine horsepower. I do small fields and small amounts of hay. A summer with rain might be 500 small square bales. This summer there has been no rain virtually. BUT, sometimes we get fall rains here in south/south central TX. One year I made hay in December!!! Thanks, Kelly

If you are feeding the hay to your own stock, check into a soft core bale. The balers sell for much less, the bales are not as pretty,
but the cows and horse don't say much about how the bales "look". Check out M&W and OMC.

I have a Hesston 5510 always shedded. This model is an open throat baler and is no longer needed, but I am in Missouri, too far away.

Can't say much about the M&W but we had a new Idea soft core and hated that thing, used it once season and traded for a used JD 535.

The 504G will work fine for what you need, assuming you can get it for the right price. I think you'll also need two sets of remotes, one to lift and close gate, and one to run string. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I bought a New Idea 484 last fall to go along with my square baler. 1980s-90s vintage. Easy to use and makes a decent 4x5 bale.

In a 4 x 4 size you can?t get much smaller or cheaper than a New Holland 630, 634, 638, BR750, BR750A, BR7050. Same baler essentially, from oldest to newest.

Was it because of the bales being bad or because the baler was bad?

Some people don't like a brand of square baler, and switch to another brand that makes the same size and shape bale...but trouble free.

You've got a couple of them wrong.
BR750 and BR750A are 4x6 balers.
BR730 is the 4x4 baler.

For his hp the 4x5 balers would be the better choice.
640, 644, 648, BR740, BR740A, BR7060.

Hesston 545, 550, 745 are good balers.

I'd look for a brand that has local dealer support.

I've pulled my JD 467 rd baler with no problems making 4X5.5 rd bales with my Kubota M7040 which is basically the same size as big_red_man's Farmall 75C .

So any of the 4ft wide JD rd balers should be fine as one can make any diameter above 3 fr on older models that baler operator chooses

I don't own the company and I'm not pushing them, but a Gehl 1460,1465,1470 or 1475 will make as tight a bale as you'll ever see.

I bought a Vermeer rebel a couple of years ago and it is the no frills model. I have to watch it closely as there is no bells or alarms telling when to tie it. Only option is a bale kicker.

Thank you for the correction. For a 62 or so PTO HP tractor a 4x4 baler is a good choice, which I was trying to articulate. The 644/648 family won?t run
at capacity with a 75C in front.

Not sure what your saying here.
I ran a Hesston 5545 and NH 640 Silage Special with my 52 hp 4000 Ford for 12 years before getting my present 6610 cab tractor that I now pull a NH BR7070 4x6 baler with.
The NH 644 and 648's are just newer versions of the 640.

My brother has got a Hesston 5510 for sale in LaVernia, TX (southeast of San Antonio). It makes a 5' wide bale but you can make the bales 4' in diameter.
