Small scale soybeans

They started out as a hay crop here in Ohio.
Back inte 60,s think it was we had a soybean field and was getting late in year but beans still completely green the ditcher was ready to put a big tile thru that area and had to remove part of a hil to do it as ditcher would not go deep enough without. We mowed that strip and tried to get dri enough to bale for the cows, had nor heard of hay conditioners yet and took forever to get the stems to where could do anything with the crop we had mowed. If you wanted to use them as a hay crop you needed to cut them at early poding time or stems got to ripe to be good. Only time ever tried making hay out of them. No silo either to put them in. Can\t remember to many details as I might have been in my late 20's then and no 81. Never heard of any neighbors trying that. I do not know why the family tried to make hay out of them except to try to salvage part of the crop.
