Smoking 4110

I've got a Ford 4110, around 1975, I've owned for upwards of 30 years and it has served me well for mowing, buck raking, and dragging trailers around. The last year or so it has really begun smoking a lot until it is completely warmed up. Starts easily, runs smoothly, good power, just a lot of diesel (because it's black and smells like diesel) smoke until it's run for maybe 10 minutes. Any thoughts on cause and how to diagnose? Seems like there is quite a bit of diesel on the outside of the motor, but no obvious leak.

Thanks,

Craig

Thanks. Yep, checked and cleaned the oil bath air cleaner, but I'll see if there's somewhere else the intake is blocked. I had a huge infestation of squirrels last year and they got up to all sorts of mischief including chewing a bunch of wires off in one of my cars and filling the front trunk with walnuts.

Pull the injectors and have them pop tested, low pop pressure and bad spray pattern can cause smoking issues
If you’re getting a good bit of wet buildup around the exhaust manifold and muffler outlet it’s wet stacking that’s caused by rings not sealing properly. This can be from to much idling around or a warn engine

Yes!! idling is probably the best way to shorten the life of a diesel.

Thanks, sounds like a plan. It does have wet buildup around the exhaust but not much blowby. Tractor was pretty tired when it came to me 30 years ago. This problem came on all at once though, smoked excessively one day but was OK the day before. I'll get the injectors tested as a first step and report back.

My new injector nozzles should arrive tomorrow and I look forward to installing them.

In the meantime, does anyone know if a 777D QT loader will work on my 4110?

Those are not the correct brackets for a 4110, they look to be for a 3cyl 4000, you’ll need the subframe brackets for a 3000/3600 to for your tractor
