Snap on/Blue point

I have a pair of wire cutter/crimpers sold by the Snap On fella. They are actually a Blue Point label. I tried to snip some 16ga steel wire today as I have a few times in the past and the upper jaw broke off. It looks like there was a flaw in the metal. Its my understanding that they don't cover the cutting surfaces on wire cutters, am I correct on this? Its been 15 years since I bought them and I still have the receipt from the original dealer who retired. Its also been 15 years since I have seen a dealer in the area. Am I wasting my time trying to track down someone for service as advertised when purchased?
 
Blue Point is Snap-Ons bargain grade of tool-I don"t think there"s a lifetime warranty on those. Similar to Sears "Companion" brand.
 
Just find the current snap on guy and see what he'll do for you. He pry will say no, but sometimes they are a new, young guy eager to please the customer...worth a shot anyways!
 
If the jaw itself broke off, they will be covered under warranty. You would probably be surprised at what Snap On will cover under waranty. Also, if there is no dealer in the area, I'm pretty sure you can mail them back to Snap On headquarters and they will waranty them that way.
 
dave, the snap on guy should warranty that no problem. except for wearing out, snap on pretty much covers all their tools. they are pricey, but they do take care of their customers. i have quite a few snap on tools, also mac and matco. all real good. if you use them for a living, its the only way to go. for a week end mechanic, craftsman ect do fine.
 
I have the same tool. I had the same thing happen to mine a few years ago and the Snap On rep replaced it no questions asked. The tool was about the same age as yours. The only Snap On or Blue Point tools they haven"t replaced under warranty are drill bits, and I have had alot of tools replaced free: screwdrivers, sockets, breaker bars, punches, etc.I think I even got a broken tap replaced for free.

Outside of power tools and consumables, (such as drill bits, files, easy outs) I have never been denied warranty replacement on worn Snap-On tools like wrenches, sockets, ratchets, pliers or screwdrivers.

Snap-on will cover the tool if it is broken.
I have one that does not cut properly and the snap-on man told me to break it! He said put it in a vise a break a jaw and i will be able to replace it. I still have the plyers.

owen, i guess i was a little vague, air tools and power tools are what i was refering to , they will rebuild them at a reasonable cost, but not free replacement. i did trade in some wore out impacts instead of rebuilding them to the snap on guy, they give you some trade in value.
 
Many Snap-On dealers would call that abuse and not warranty the tool, if it's evident what was done.

Just because I believe it counts against them for every warranty tool they turn in I was told one time, not sure if it's true or not.
 
I was a Snap-On dealer in the 70's, and Blue point tools were made by someone else, but were warranted the same as the snap-on tools. I used to warranty some things that were defintely abused, but never had any problems getting credit form the company. Don't know how it is now though. Warranty costs at that time were only about 2 or 3 percent of sales, so were not a big deal.
