Snap on ratchet found

Found one at a yard sale, looked pretty old. Matched the script of the name to a set of wrenches I have showing how the name has been written differently over the years. Said it was from the late 30's to '43 I think. I'll check for sure tomorrow. I was surprised. Think there were fewer than normal made during the war? It seems short for a 1/2" ratchet. I'll post a pic later.

Google Snapon date code chart

Theres a little symbol on every snap on tool that is a date code. The tool man can tell you the year.

I found one that I thought was a 1/4 drive but it was just slightly larger. Maybe 5/16. Snap ON driver swapped the drive out, to a 1/4 drive for me. It is not shiny anymore and it blends into whatever it is laying on. It is so much better than the Craftsman I try not to use

The ratchet mentioned by one poster that is slightly larger than 1/4-in square is almost certainly a metric that came in to the States as part of a VW or other import toolkit sold by Snap-On to dealer shops.

I've run across one a guy brought back from overseas and had had it for years.

They're called either 5-mm or 6-mm--varies by who's talking.

My local Snap-On won't touch it and just calls it "foreign not for U.S. and can't work on it"----sort of like 'Gray-market tractors.

Did trace one part number for this type ratchet to Germany, but still no domestic support from Snap-On.

I'd like to know if somebody has a known replacement part number or POC at Snap-On.
