Snap On Tools Warranty

I have an old Snap On 3/8 drive ratchet that skips when in use. I looked on the Snap On website to see what is involved in requesting repair/replacement. Snap On provides an email where you can request return authorization. The kicker was you have to provide a copy of the sales receipt and other information that I do not have. The website specifically says that without this information no warranty will be considered.

Yeah, they've tightened up on that in recent years unfortunately,. If you have a good local rep, sometimes they're still good about warranting it without receipt. It's ok for tools purchased in the last 15 years or so, because they keep excellent electronic records.

Even if they won't warranty for free, you can probably buy their rebuild kit for that ratchet from them for pretty cheap. I found an old Snap-on ratchet of my grandfather's buried in the basement when we were cleaning it out for some foundation work. Completely seized up inside. Bought the rebuild kit from the local truck for about $25 (he had the kit in-stock with him) and I put it in with some fresh synthetic grease. Works and feels like new, and way better quality than any ratchet you'd buy these days.

Last year, I called Snap On to inquire how to return a broken breaker bar. The lady took my info, including the part number, and less than a week later a new breaker bar showed up via UPS. No return necessary, and only based on trusting me over the phone. You should try anyway. steve

If you happen to have a friend that works in a shop (car dealership, etc) that gets regular visits from Snap On sales truck, they're pretty good at just swapping them out on the spot.

My son just had his snap on man repair a half inch drive, 16 inch, 40 year old ratchet for me. It had a couple stripped teeth. No questions asked.

I have only a few SnapOn tools. My 3/8 torque wrench, which I purchased used, skipped. It had a chipped drive gear. Called SnapOn and no questions asked they sent me a repair kit. It works like new now.

I ran into that a while ago as well. Snap On tools basically have no warranty anymore. I can't fathom why people would continue to buy them. Better off to just buy from Harbor Freight now. At least they stand behind their tools.

Snap On just charged me $113 to replace a spring and calibrate a three year old TQFR250 torque wrench. The good thing is. They have a place in Beckley WV that does work on their torque wrenches and some other tools. So I had it back in two weeks.

The MAC man stopped running here. Since Stanley Black and Decker owns MAC now. No one will buy from them.

Kansas4010 that simply isn't true. You need to call snap-on on whatever dealers not warranting something and they'll take care of it. My snap-on guy will warranty anything that carries a lifetime warranty no questions asked. In my 30 plus years of buying snap-on tools I've never had a problem with warranty. NEVER!

I emailed them a few years ago. They said they'd look into it and let me know. Never heard from them again. Don't figure why I need to jump through hoops to get them to stand behind their warranty. Tossed the ratchet somewhere in the shed and haven't bought Snap On since. Just wasn't worth the hassle.

Well that's not good. Too bad you didn't live close to me because I could take that right to my snap-on guy and he would either rebuild it or replace it no questions asked.

Ten years ago just before I retired the Snap On guy came in. I told him not to waste any time on me because I was done. My screw driver drawer happened to be open and he started to pull black handled screw drivers out, said some of them were recalled. He replaced the handles on some and the whole screw driver on about ten others.
Before he was done I had a new dead blow hammer, a couple of handfuls of chrome sockets that were peeling and probably something else.

I wasn't complaining about anything wrong with tools and never cost me a dime.
That seems like pretty decent service to me.

Wow! I've owned Snap on, Mac, Matco, Cornwell, craftsman and many other brands and still do. The only one I ever had a problem with warranty was Craftsman. They used to replace or repair no questions asked when they were still with Sears. After that I tried to get a ratchet warranty at Ace Hardware but they refused since it didnt have their mark on it. They would only warranty if I had bought it there. I've never had any of the others, and especially Snap On, refuse warranty. Our dealer asks every week if we have anything damaged or broken that needs replacement. Never been charged for a replacement or repair in 35 years of turning wrenches for a living.

Honestly it's not very surprising. The guys that buy enough tools to be on a dealer's route have no problem with warranties. The guys that just have a few Snap On tools are relying on the mercy of the dealer. From a dealer's point of view who would you want to take care of. The guy who spends lots of money on your truck or some guy you probably won't ever see again. I don't agree with it but that seems to be the way it is.
