We went to Pungo Perserve at Plymouth NC last January. It was a sight to see.

One year I had a fledging wheat crop in its infancy....3-4 tall. A flock of snows were migrating and decided to stop by and fill up on groceries. Half a dozen times I would go out in the field and shoo them off and they would just circle around a hundred or feet or so high, wait for me to leave and return. I gave up.......they didn't.

On another occasion, must have been a hundred or so snows going no where. They were scattered and just milling around at a couple hundred feet high, in one general area. I didn't know why....and still don't. Were they lost, waiting for more to show up, looking for a place to roost (in mid morning) or looking for a place to graze. Was quite a sight.

This spring a pair of Canadians circled my ponds and left. Next thing I know here comes mommy, 4 goslings and poppy, walking across the field headed for the pond area. They stayed here and as time passed, not much at that, the goslings were developing their grown up wings and would practice touch and gos on my pond. One day I witnessed a fly over of the family....all 4 goslings survived....and haven't seen them since. Lake Bonham, north of Bonham, Tx. has a large population of Canadians and I assume they joined the families there. The population is quite large and surely a problem for the lake side land owners.....but they are fun to watch when the fish aren't biting.

They'll be back next year to raise another brood. There's been a pair that show up here every spring, and have for years. This year they showed up in February as I recall. I know it was way early for geese.
