Snow plowing

Looks like this is going to be one of those years with the snow here in northwest Illinois. Have had to plow several times already. Itwas kinda icy the last time and I had a bit of a traction problem. I haven't used the chains since I blacktopped the drive a few years ago. Anyone using chains on blacktop without problems?

I am in Northern WI and this year I am using chains, the round type for asphalt and cement. They don't seem to hurt the asphalt unless you hold one brake and turn sharp. I can not be without chains this year. Bought them online for about 230.00 and easy to install.

Have fun,

I put chains on for the first time this year, it scratches the asphalt, but not deep. Try not to spin the tires too much. I have weighted tires, fluid plus 200 lbs in weights, and it was enough without chains till this 18" snowfall.

I've only had about 3" to push so far. I'm running my Jube with foam filled industrial/turf tires. If that won't do it I'll get out the '52 8N with loaded ag tires and Wagner loader.
I've never had chains on an N and have been pushing snow about 57 years.

I use chains on blacktop and it can tear it up.
I think in my situation blacktop is more of a liability than an asset. Mine has always been in poor condition since we"ve lived here and we can"t get it redone without digging down and regrading, which will cost more than we can afford.
