Hoss I know what you mean. I signed in Presque Isle AFB Sep 30 1955 with 6" on ground and didnt see ground again till late may. Many nights it was 40 below. Had to preflight a cold airplane many many mornings. I still get cold thinking about that. They didnt plow the roads in those days just drove on top of it till spring thaw. Take care spring should be here in about 3 months for you.

Both bases are closed up now.There are several buisnesses at Loring now,the biggest rebuilds vehicles worn out or dammaged in Iraq.Seen a few go up the interstate,some pretty messed up,bomb dammage etc. Got 10in snowlast nite.Now getting lats of freezing rain.May go snomobile riding tommorrow.This pic was taken at noon today.The little H is about buried.Ive got a nice garage but its got a pullin tractor in it im puttin together,a harley,couple snomobiles etc. Later Hoss

Yes i kinda enjoyed it up there. The next winter I was in Anchorage Alaska. Was fun there also and I'm from VA. Must be somethjing wrong with me but iI was much younger then.

we've had it pretty easy here in Kansas so far this year. Last year was the worst. I guess its more of that global warming stuff. Can't say I really mind it warmin up here a bit.

My brother was stationed at Loring AFB for 5 years in the 70s and used to talk about having to build a fire under the truck transmission to unfreeze the heavy gear grease. I went there once from Barksdale AFB La to brief the flying crews on a special program and the wind was blowing heavy wet snow sideways. By the time I walked from my staff car to the alert facility I had six inches of wet snow stuck to my parka on the windward side. It took a half hour of hot coffee to warm me up so I could talk to the crews. The temps were in the 70s back in Louisiana so I couldn"t wait to get back home and go fishing in short sleeves. To each his own, but I now live in Georgia and enjoy the warm weather all year. I have great respect for the hardy people of the North. My 22 years growing up on a farm in the cold mid-west were enough character building for me. You"ll be laughing at me this August when the temps and humidity here in Georgia are in the 90s and I"m up to my armpits in sweat, however, I spent two week camping in Bangor where it was hot and humid also. LOL

South of San Antonio may hit 72 degree today, that's what the lying weatherman said this morning. Nice picture, But look's way to cold for my bones.

You should go south for the winter, Like Tim Sample said. The weather here in Scarboro is hot compered to up there. I also tried the Louisiana to Loring trip in the winter during the mid fifties when you had B 47.s there it was too cold for me. good luck may see you at a summer pull.
