Snowblower

I?m looking at getting a blower for my 2N but not sure about this one. I?ve seen the 2 stage with an auger and impeller but this one is more of a V-plow with an impeller at the back. Can anyone give me any info on these? The ad says it was used with an 8N. It?s on an online auction and the price is right now but I don?t know if it?s worth going any higher. Any input would be nice.

I trust you?re aware of the challenges of running a blower behind a 2n? Fast reverse, non live PTO, limited power etc? Unless you?re planning to use it on very light snow you?ll probably be disappointed.

As to the type of blower, single stage (the type you mentioned in the auction) would probably work best with your tractor but will only work in very dry snow. Two stage are more tolerant of wet snow. Good luck.

I was given one, and it would work with a light, fluffy snow only. Anything slightly heavy, wet, or drifted would not feed down into the impeller, it just plugged up in the "V". My son cut it up, sold the impeller for scrap, and made a V-plow for his loader tractor. Don't pay more than scrap price for it.

That?s why I was hoping someone would have some experience with this setup and could shed some light for me. I?ve been using a 7ft blade and bucket for over 25 years now. It works good, but come February and March my 3/4 of a mile drive is one lane after the windrow gets to heavy to push. I?m looking to throw the snow a little farther out. The ad said it?s the perfect size for an 8 or 9 but I wouldn?t trust someone?s word an that. Any input is helpful.

A few guys around here bought them when they first came out. Within two years, they were scrapped, traded or put in a fence row. As the other guys said, if the snow is light and fluffy, it will work but in other snow, all you will have is a snow plow. Also, with a 2N and the fast reverse, you won't have enough power for snow over a couple inches deep. I have a 6ft on my Oliver 880 and at times in the slowest reveres, I still have to clutch and let it clean out and with a 2N you can't do that either. I would say if you want a snowblower, you will need a larger tractor with independent or at least live PTO.

I had an Erskine rotary plow. Inverted V pulled behind the tractor. Used it behind a allis WD 45 it worked great had an extension on the right side stuck out 18" past the rear tire. As long as I could drive thru it it would blow the snow out into the trees. Mine had a farmer mod done to it. A piece of auger flighting was welded on the pto foward of the impeller it broke up the snow when it tried bridging in the V. My coworker had one for his 9n. It didn't work that well just not enough horsepower. He gave it to me I put it on my brothers WD and it would plug in heavy or wet snow We added a couple paddles to the PTO and it worked pretty good after that. I cleared the church parking lot with mine several times. You can't get close to anything with it but it worked well for keeping my 300' long drive clean. With the right extension I drive right next to the plow ridge and widen the road a little over a foot each pass.
