Had a birthday a couple days ago. At 82 now, Still going. Stan
old age aint for sissys...
That balance thing is one of the reasons I retired farming 4 yrs ago. If farming was just driving tractor I would have kept going. But climbing up those grain bins and climbing up the head to wash the windshield on combine. Walking around top of combine to grease, climbing up outside of tractor cabs to clean cabin filters,,,, no thanks.Happy late Birthday. Im a bit behind you feel pretty decent but having a problem with my balance grrrrrrrrrrrr old age aint for sissys
Best wishes

Chief, congratulations on your joining the 82+ group. I got there a couple of months ago. About the comments on losing sense of balance; I can certainly agree on that as I have to be extra careful when walking on uneven or slightly rough terrain. I blame part of my difficulty on declining eyesight as I have MD and have lost some sight in right eye. But....just have to be more careful and like one said, no more climbing around on machinery, etc. I miss operating a combine which I gave up a couple of years ago but I'm still doing some farming and haying but my sons do the majority now.Had a birthday a couple days ago. I had always heard that, and now I'm starting to understand what they meant!![]()

The jury is still out on this in my own case. Ive had brain MRI's, holter heart monitors, vascular flow tests, and heart echo sonogram or something like that and those things don't look too bad or necessarily the cause of imbalance.... HOWEVER the imbalance doesn't seem quite the same as Vertigo which can be more dizziness and spinning etc. etc. as told by my Doc NO WARRANTY GET YOUR OWN DOCTOR LOL Mines more a feeling of leaning or falling forward standing or walking although I havent fell... For Vertigo IFFFFFFFFF caused by calcium crystals built up in the inner ear Doc says there are exercises as well as normal senior balance exercises but those dont seem to matter grrrrrrrrrrrrrr Bottom line they tell me it may just be somewhat just age related grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr As typical we can get medical, legal, electrical, EV, climate, or gas price info and advice on here as well as the Google or You Tube users who find answers there lolDoes the balance problem come with vertigo???
Reason I ask is I am starting to have balance problems.

I was told NOT to shuffle (like an old man) but pick my feet up and walk Heel Toe Heel Toe. Im doing senior balance exercises almost daily but they dont seem to help grrrrrrrrrrrrr Ahhhhhhhhh YT Mag knows alllllllllllllllllllI've had a few spells myself and blame it on lack of oxygen. I get too involved with what I'm doing and forget to breathe deep enough. If I sit down and breathe deep it goes away. Most of my tripping problems comes from not picking my feet up as high as I used to. Sticks are my worst annoyance, I step on one end and the other end of the stick raises up and catches my other foot.
I tried memory pills. They were expensive and didn't help, I think? Not really certain.I was told NOT to shuffle (like an old man) but pick my feet up and walk Heel Toe Heel Toe. You are about 6 months older than my dad. Happy birthday!Had a birthday a couple days ago. At 82 now, Still going. Stan
When I saw the Doc about the balance thing, he told me to supplement with Magnesium, CoQ10, and Vitamin B2. It had to do with the crystals in my inner ear. I was already taking the CoQ10 because of my Statin. This seems to work for me. I used to lean off to the right walking across the driveway to the shop. That doesn't occur anymore. I still don't pick my feet up like I should, but knee replacement did that to me. steveX2

When I'm walking I always find myself turning to the right. I have to make a conscious effort to keep walking straight. The jury is still out on this in my own case. Mine is more leaning or feel like falling, but always forward ???When I'm walking I always find myself turning to the right. I have to make a conscious effort to keep walking straight.
Same age as poster here and was having walking/balance problems. Would have failed a drunk test. Had all the neurologic testing and any other scan you mention. Finding nothing to fix it gets down to strengthening exercises to improve fitness. Doc will write a physical therapy prescription. The jury is still out on this in my own case.
