Soil Samples

Where do you fellas send your soil samples for testing. I really don't like having the place that sells fertilized do it and the local extention agent is not so hot. Any suggestions?

Only place I know of is the USDA and they in turn send it off to some Gov. place to have it checked at least here in Missouri that is where we would take it

South Dakota State University, ag sciens division. Google them up. SDSU. $10. Done for the crop and yield you are doing.

Your land grant (agricultural) University for your state or region of your state. The information should be online.

Local FSA agent should have the envelopes, and the form, just fill in the info and send it to the Ag school on the form/envelope.

Minnesota Valley Testing Lab is in my hometown, they end up doing most in the area, send in yourself or have your fert dealer send it in - I do understand the results can come out a bit different.

On another forum a lot of fellas mention 'Midewest Labs' a lot, which is I think in Nebraska.

Heres what an old farmer told me a long time ago.He had 3 fields to soil test early one spring.First field was close to the barn.Cold windy day and he didnt want to walk to fields 2 and 3.He took a good sample from field 1, went back to the house and put samples in 3 jars.Labeled them 1 2 and 3 and sent them in for testing.Results came back with very different results for each field.

I send mine to Litchfiled Analytical in Litchfield, MI. They e-mail me the results within a couple days after they recieve the sample. I can send them to my local land grant school if I want to wait a couple weeks for results. Litchfield has a website.

I send mine to Kinsey ag. I think they are in Missouri. It takes a little while though cause they do quite a bit. You can check their website and also Neal kinsey's book is a good read.
