Soil Surgeon

I came across a post concerning a soil surgeon, that was posted by BushogPapa. I think he said he had a set of knives made for one by Gengrich in Plain City, Ohio. Anybody have an address or phone number for this place? Thanks

Pcsaw..

Ask them to use as Hard a steel as they can get and keep the knives shorter than new ones, as the new ones will not be "Spring Steel" and could bend when you have a heavy load of soil of rocks on it (if yours is the "Pan Type", like mine..).

I was lucky enough to find the Last of the new ones around here..just enough for the entire front Row..

Where are you located and how did you end up with a Soil Surgeon..??

My folks bought this one New, when I was a very small child, rode on it many, many miles scrounging up rocks..!

I may know where another section or two are located, if the fella will sell them (he uses a single section behind his horses..

Some were made as open-frame, rigid with the Soil Surgeon knives and if you find one, the knives may be in good condition..

I am about 10 mi. NE of Plain City, Oh..

The set we have is the pan type, made out of 1/4 inch diamond plate, 2 of them bolted together. The knives are wore down to about 1 1/2 inches now. My father bought them at an auction back about 1955 for $35.00. Nobody else around here knowed what they were. We knew the knives were made out of spring steel. We were thinking of trying to have the knives made locally, out of AR plate or T1. We're in southern WV, about midway between Beckley & Lewisburg. How long would you guess the new knives were? My father thinks they were about 4 inches. I've rode many a mile on them to, picking rocks out of corn fields & gardens. Thanks for the info.

I need to take some pictures..!

I am guessing they are more than 4" (originally)..

We had worn ours down to nubs..but it still did a good job over new plowed ground..!

The knives Gingway made for mine are somewhat thicker and just as long..if I have mine loaded heavy and strike a rock just right, I can bend one a little. That is why I suggest keeping them shorter, they will still last many years..
Probably the best way would be to have them made and sent to be Heat-Treated..
They were nice people to talk to and very interested in the project..!
