solenoid issue in 3330D

tried a cold weather start, the engine turned slowly on the first start then nothing.
After that nothing happened.
-Replaced the battery. Still nothing.
-Took out the starter and bench tested it. The starter motor is fine
-Tested the solenoid, it made the "clunking" sound as it supposed to
-Figured the issue was therefor in the ignition wiring.
replaced the starter and solenoid and by-passed the ignition wire by using a screw driver and hot jumping
from the power terminal on the starter to the small ignition terminal.
The engine turned over but rather slowly. Still would not start.
-On repeated attempts, The solenoid terminal that leads to the starter began to overheat and glow red.

The engine is turning over slowly when the ignition is bypassed. So I assume I have to replace the wiring there.
But I should still be able to get the motor cranked up by-passing and hot jumping with a screwdriver.
is the solenoid not producing enough juice? Does it need to be replaced?

Jumping the starter like that might pooch the voltage regulator. Buy a remote starter (under $10 for a push-button that connects the battery to the starter). Earlier posts here tell what to connect on the starter. Makes troubleshooting safe and effective.

I'd next check the cables and terminals that connect to the battery, then the rest of the starting system.

You have to test/eliminate ALL wiring connections. Run jumper cables direct from battery to pos. terminal on starter and starter cAse. If that works, get your volt/ohm meter out.
