Will be cleaning up a bunch of timber this spring, so here are a couple pieces we have made to make the tractor more user friendly. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Steve

I would recommend you get a Zane Thang if you don't already have one. Makes the 9n a lot more user friendly when using attachments like that.

Yep. It is a great addition to a 9 or 2N. Gives great position control and is very easy to install.

Zane Thang as mentioned, sway bars to keep them from
swinging and breaking your check chains or hitting your tires.

Are you posting from an Apple device? If so, editing your pics
first would make them appear right side up to PC users.
Otherwise they are posted sideways.

I like those forks for stacking some 10 foot logs before cutting.

Please post up a few picts of the rear forks. A couple different angles. I am planning on making something similar but need ideas.
Or send to my email: [email protected]

Sorry about the pics. I should probably have my son post them. I'm not the best with this tool. Didn't find the Zane Thang in the store. Probably did something wrong in my search. Anyone have pictures of sway bars? I will probably need something for top and bottom on the forks.
I used solid 3/4 bar for the bottom, and ran the forks thru so sched 80 1 inch pipe top is on 1 inch bar that existed. Forks will slide side to center easily Do need to strengthen the side to side twisting load, esp on the top.

Your bucket may be a little handier to use for moving logs and cutting them when they are off the ground, saves the back and chain saw blades. This is about the biggest log I move with the one loader. I have a ford 4000 forklift to move heavier timber. With front loader you will need some sort of counter weight.
I would not move heavy timber with the back forks. Sway bars and zane recommended as others have stated.

No problem with the pictures, just wanted you to know they
appeared sideways to PC users. This one looks right.

Forum member Zane Sherman sells the Zane Thang.

You may have the perfect sway bar setup but some young man is surely going to be easily [i:d92e263198]swayed[/i:d92e263198] by your lovely driver. :)

598,
You've given me a chance to shamelessly show off my custom
sway bars. Someone made them up out of lower link arms so they have the ball ends at the axle housing as well.

I like that they have their own attach point.

Impressive picture Kirk. How much you estimate that trunk weighs?
My loader is the jungle Jim type and makes it a PITA to climb in/out of although you are correct. The loader would give me the best bang for the buck not to mention I can stack the tree trunks higher.

Terry, that is my oldest 2 years back.

I added a Sherman Hi-Lo to my 2N. Completely different tractor for moving and skidding logs with the low range.
We make about 15 cord of firewood every year and the 2N skids the majority of it.

I like your fork's adjust-ability. I welded up some hollow rectangular tube forks and they work great but I wish I could change width...

For the stabilizer bars I made a pair out of old tow chains - they need to be used as a pair as they only work under tension (I've used one regular bar and the chain on the other side too) boy do they make setting up an implement easy.

That's why I am interested in them. I can control the pitch of the forks and roll the logs off when they are almost 3 feet off the floor.

Thanks for all the positive input. Tractor has the Sherman, I just didn't know it. Made a shifter handle for it and already had to use it in the snow. The 3 point engages with a lever on the drivers side and clutch activation. It also is controlled on the other side and I can set height from there. Is that the standard setup? will have to build both lower and upper stabilizers. Like the chain idea for the bottom, just have to make some mounting points even with the ball pivots off the axle bolts. Not sure how I'm gong to stabilize the top yet. Top has too much movement when I load one fork or the other separately. Would love a hydraulic ram for angle changes on the fly, but I'm on a 9N budget.

Thanks

Steve
