Needed a new u joint half for my flail mower. There is a shop in the next town that does U joints. mostly on cars and trucks. They ordered a new U joint half, and the mechanic installed it. I go to install it, it's too big for the drive spline. on the gear box, I didn't want to drive to the next town again, and wait for the new part, and drive back. I had an adapter from 1 1/8 to 1 3/8 on my first mowing tractor a TO 20 I hadn't used for 25 or so years. Every thing was rusty. I had to cut the mower drive shaft, it would not slide together to remove the adapter. I Installed the adapter, now the drive shaft is a few inches too long, had to cut off a piece. Any way it's together now. I will use it tomorrow. Of the three of us, the counter man, the mechanic and my self one of us should have noticed the wrong part. Stan

How could I miss that?

Many years ago, bought a used baler. Gave the dealer a check, he was going to bring it the next day.
He sent me home with the owners manual, where I discovered that baler was made for either 540 or 1000 rpm pto.
I needed 540, the baler I bought was 1000. Never even thought to look at the pto splines.
Dealer thought it was funny, said it wasn't the first time, tore up my check and cancelled the sale.
