Sometimes you get lucky

The next door retired farmer called and said he was cleaning up. "I've got a rotten hay wagon with a good running gear under, you can have it if you get it out of my sight." Turns out to be a Case VWTA 66. It will need some TLC, but not too bad for 70 years old.

The gentleman across S from you is Bill Overbeck, who had several orchard tractors with full tin years back. His dad had an orchard. He used to farm a lot of acres when peas and beans were all the rage up here. Schartner Implement just lost the NH parts dealership April 1st. They were originally AC, NH, and NI, and had a fantastic parts dept. as well. Great people. When I was a kid there were farmers 5 deep at the counter during haying season, waiting for parts at times. Now it's totally different. Don

Good hear Don, looks like a nice project. Couple years ago a neighbor told me to get that Case plow sitting on the edge of the grove or its going to town to the scrap yard. I made it disappear fast, Rod.

We used to have a flat bed wagon with a Case running gear under it. We could pull the wagon down the road at sixty miles per hour. It looked like the truck and wagon were running on rails.

I believe Case made these in one of their factories. I have never seen any other running gear designed like this, so you probably do have a Case gear. If you post a picture I'm sure someone here could identify it for you. Don

Stacked thousands of bales of hay and straw on a couple of wagons like this. Seems like the record was 144 bales of straw( that made it to the barn).

This one has an extended pole and had 20'beams, so I'm sure it was loaded to capacity and more. The back wheel, hub and axle have been replaced, so I'm thinking it was snapped off at some time. Still trails great though. Don
