I have a 64 4000 sos. About 1-2 inches of the #1 band broke off and was laying in the bottom of the transmission. Anybody repair these in the Ohio, in, mi, pa, wv area? I could deliver the trans or the whole tractor. Thanks for any help. Wayne

Start contacting New Holland dealers near you and ask if they are old enough to have been Ford dealers back in the day. If so, they may still have a mechanic that knows how to work on the S-O-S transmissions. Keep working out in a larger and larger radius until you find one. I live in Southeast PA, and the last one I found was a dealer named Ag Industrial. They actually had a shop here in my home town of Pottstown PA at the time, about 12 years ago, but their mechanic that still worked on the S-O-S transmissions was at another location, somewhere north of Baltimore in MD. It looks like they have closed a few locations, but they still have one in New Holland, PA.

Thanks,I will try local NH dealer and go from there. I will keep in mind Arthur's but they are a pretty long haul. Page Implement would be a really long haul. I am south of Cleveland. Thanks again.

I have a '63 4000 SOS. I built the trans myself about 5 years ago but I have been working on them since the '70's. I did not have to put bands nor any hard parts in it. Still I spent about $1000 on gaskets, seals, and clutches and I did not charge myself labor. If you don't have special feelings for the SOS you might be ahead to put a 4 or 5 speed in your tractor.

I really like the independent pto and the many gears to choose from. The farm has irregular fields and is rough and hilly.

Arthurs Tractors in PA.

Thanks for the replies. I am waiting on a reply from my local NH service manager and will go from there. Thanks again.
