My 971 went to shift nothing there it is in 6 gear I'm guessing the cable broke. Also now I can't start tractor no safety switch any thoughts.

If the cable really is broken, and it really is in 6th gear, and you need to move it, I'd hook up a remote start switch to the starter, get in the seat, step on the inching pedal and crank it over. Do NOT crank the engine over while standing next to the tractor, as we don't wish to be hearing from your widow.

What Bern said, for obvious safety reasons. If the cable is snapped you may be able to unscrew the hardline off the top of the valve housing and then grab the cable and pull it to get it back to Park. You will have to eventually take the cable housing apart to feed a new one back into the housing. If you have never taken one apart before it is advisable to study the manual as there are a couple of gotcha's that are not obvious until it is too late to go back and try it again the correct way. It has been some time since I delved inside an SOS shifter so I can't do much more than recall that it can bite you if done in the wrong manner.

I got the tractor started by what was said it moves fine it is in 6 th gear but the lever does nothing any ideas beside the cable broke I have another one off of a 4000
