Since you own both a 660 and a 850 can you measure the diameter of the rear axle gear housings and post that info here. Also we're trying to determine casting numbers used on the 600/800/601/801 rear axle housings. The casting number is found jus aft of the PTO engagement lever.
 
Thanks. Mine measured the same, so that would make it an 841 with a 641 transmission.
When Dad bought the tractor it had a loader on it. Either the transmission broke or they wanted the Sherman for working the loader.
The code dates for the engine and rear end are close, and the serial number on the transmission dates it to Feb '59. The code date for the transmission is odd, (8BX) it doesn't match with the system. It could be a 3, but I sure it's a B. There is no doubt about the X though.
