Re previous post about 8N 12V, cange points, josgged starter to seat cap. Plug wire caught under alt pulley. Took loose alt, had to jog again to free wire. Mentioned three wires from alt, one to bat one to reulator the middle wire looped over screwed to alt body on pulley. Put back together. Not charging.
What I have done: Jumped regulator and got 13 amp charge. Removed reg, found burnt wire, soldered wire. I think the loop wire I wedged between the alt body and bracket for gound. When I took the alt loose I lost ground and when I jogged the starter bat voltage fed into the reg buning the wire. I think that is what happened. I'm goin back out nest week to see if the reg repair worked. Anyway thanks to you and JMOR for your help............................Jim

i'm going to have to see a picture of what you have. is this an old alternator with external regulator?

Yes, it has an external regulator. If the wire burns again I will just recharge the battery every time I use the tractor. At some later date I will go to a one wire alternator.
Thanks...Jim
