You could make your own easy enough,,the groove is nothing special, just made to hold the pin tight, you could make it with a cold chisel holding the round stock in the vise...a grade 5 bolt would be near the right hardness..

try msc industrial supply or mcmaster carr.
we use them at work. tons of inventory. or maybe a thin cutoff wheel on an air grinder.
what ya lookin for? perfection or functionality?

Did you call the Ridenours or check Rusty Acres Ranch? I would be surprised if from one of those two sources you couldn't get a used or one of if the Ridenour's didn't have new ones even. I have seen people just use bolts before. They aren't really groove pins like Tim or 5020 mention either. It is a tapered shaft that is threaded on one end. As you tighten the bolt it pulls the pin into the steering arm and spindle locking the two together. It's not something you could make without a lathe I don't think.

I was thinking of a groove pin being a straight pin (no threads)with grooves on the sides that 'swell' the O/D a bit to keep it tight after it's driven into place,,like in baler knotter drive cogs and such..

Way back when I worked for a JD dealer there was a book that listed all types of hardware(groove, spring, tapered pins & bolts, nuts, washers) by their part number & size that JD had available.

The early la's just use a grooved pin. The latter ones use one with treads like was mentioned.
Yeah all they are is a pin with three grooves down the length and are friction fit.
Looks like I might just have to make them.
Thx

Just use the "Search By Part Specifications" feature at jdparts.com.

There a several styler of grooved pins shown, the only .438 X 2" is part # 25H860. In the parts graphic it is shown as fatter and grooved around it's middle area.

At about a buck it's not real expensive to get one to try!

Those pins are tapered as well as grooved. I think I got some at a local industrial nut and bolt place.

My one LA had been welded in a previous life and I ground that off so as to get it apart. I had trouble getting them to hold so I slit the arms with a hacksaw and then put a bolt through them and tightened it and it has held up well.
