Source of the leak?

I have a John Deere 60 that is leaking into the left(flywheel) cylinder. I have had the head and block surfaces machined, each done on separate. It still leaks.

I removed the head and noticed the cracks near the spark plug hole (to the left of the spark plug hole and below the spark plug hole).

Could this be source of the leak? What can I use to verify that this is indeed a crack?

Sure looks like a crack to me ? Those were known to crack inside the cyl. walls at top of ring travel usually on the top side of the cylinder. You could get some spray leak detector or get it magnafluxed either should work.

JD 60s are noted for cracks around the block studs from being over torqued. Any signs of cracks around the base of the studs????
